Following the deadliest fire in Hong Kong’s history, which claimed at least 128 lives, mourners continued to lay flowers at the foot of the charred buildings. A three-day period of mourning began in Hong Kong on Saturday (November 29).

Same times, The devastating fire at # Hung Fuk Court in Tai Po claimed at least 128 lives. Citizens spontaneously formed the “Tai Po Hung Fuk Court Fire Concern Group” and launched an online petition demanding an independent investigation committee to thoroughly investigate the man-made disaster. However, the group’s social media accounts and online petition were all shut down after only about a day. According to the South China Morning Post, the group’s founder has been taken away by national security police. The Office for Safeguarding National Security of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong issued a statement expressing support for the Hong Kong SAR government’s severe punishment of those who “use disaster to disrupt Hong Kong.”

A citizen-organized “Tai Po Hung Fuk Court Fire Concern Group” has put forward four demands, including the establishment of an independent investigation committee to thoroughly investigate the man-made disaster. Some members distributed leaflets outside Tai Po Market MTR station on Friday evening (28th) to garner public support. The group had also been collecting signatures online, but the petition abruptly ended around 4 pm on Saturday (29th), with the final number of signatures remaining at 10,255.

The South China Morning Post, citing sources, reported that the group’s founder, Miles, was taken away by national security police. Independent Media also filmed Miles being taken back to his residence by police officers for questioning.
