Apr 21, 2015, WRIC founder Jing Zhang made a speech reminiscing a past conversation with Gao Yu, in which she told Jing that she had seriously high blood pressure and diabetes. Jing asked Gao if she needed to see the doctor, but she replied that she couldn’t afford the high hospital fees. A lot of medicine she had was given by friends. If she didn’t have enough, she would buy some on the streets. She led an ordinary life, barely surviving on her meager manuscript fees. Jing felt terrible for this great woman, who was internationally-acclaimed in the journalism field, but had to live such a poor life. She calls on all those who have a conscience to stand up and support Gao Yu.
